20.6 million passengers passed through the different airport structures in Morocco at the end of November 2018, up 10.38% over the first 11 months of the year, says Thursday the National Office of Airports ( ONDA).
Casablanca’s Mohammed V airport, which is growing at just over 4%, remains the main national hub with 8.93 million passengers, or 43.3% of all passenger traffic , according to the monthly statistics of the Office.
Marrakech Ménara continues its strong growth by welcoming 4.78 million passengers during the first eleven months of the year, representing an increase of 20.84% year-on-year and a market share of 23.21%.
Last November, Moroccan airports saw a total of 1.81 million passengers pass, compared with 1.61 million passengers in the same month of 2017, up 12.29%, according to new data from the international airport’Office.
The upturn affected the majority of airports with double-digit growth rates, particularly by the Marrakech Marrakesh airports (+ 22.75%), Agadir Al Massira (+ 14.18%), Fes Saiss (+20, 36%), Tangier Ibn Battouta (+ 20.78%), Rabat Salé (+ 20.69%), Dakhla (+ 39.52%) and Essaouira Mogador (+ 51.22%).
International traffic, which represents 87% of the global volume (1.59 million passengers), recorded a growth of 10.49%, which is mainly due to the good performance in terms of traffic with Europe (+12 %), the Middle and Far East (+ 14.57%) and the Maghreb countries (+ 8.44%).
The other segments, Africa, North America and South America, fell by 5.06%, 0.94% and 8.74% respectively.
Domestic traffic, for its part, achieved a significant improvement of + 26.76%, with 226,876 passengers welcomed during this month, thanks to the programming of several new internal routes by Air Arabia Morocco. .
On the other hand, there were 15,937 aircraft movements during the month of November, up + 11.92% over the same period last year. The Mohammed V airport’s share is 42.15% of this traffic, Marrakech Menara 23.30% and Agadir Al Massira 8.83%.
Commercial aircraft flying over Moroccan airspace increased by 12.1% to 22,286 aircraft movements, while airfreight almost stagnation (+ 0.18%), totaling 7,828.82 tons, against 7,814.83 tons in November 2017.
