The Automotive Meetings Tangier-Med is a flagship event for the Moroccan automotive industry and is a forum for opportunities and exchanges par excellence for the sector. Its objective is to foster partnerships between principals, equipment manufacturers and subcontractors, and to stimulate the emergence of strategic alliances leading to progress and development for the sector.
This edition opens at a time when the sector is performing well and making remarkable progress. Morocco’s leading export position with 44.5% of industrial exports, 66.5 billion dirhams of export turnover and the highest job creation recorded (85,000 new jobs), the automotive industry is progressing rapidly and is moving towards the goal of reaching more than 100 billion dirhams for export and the production of one million vehicles by 2025.
Speaking at the opening session, Mr. Moulay Hafid Elalamy emphasized that the Kingdom stands out as an African pioneer of car manufacturing and consolidates its global base position. The automotive industry has entered a new stage in its history, marked by a strong move upmarket, the development of new sectors and the emergence of new investment niches.
This remarkable growth, supported by the installation of the first and second manufacturers opens a wide field of opportunities for operators in the sector. These are indeed more than 50 plants Greenfield Equipment Rang1 which are under construction. They will ensure convergence towards ecosystem objectives: job creation, deep local integration, high export performance.
For this 6th edition, there are more than 150 major operators of the automotive industry from countries of various continents (Germany, Austria, South Korea, Spain, France, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Morocco, Mexico, Portugal and Romania) who met in Tangier. A city symbolizing the growth of the automobile industry, with a high-level port and industrial infrastructure (Port Tanger-Med, Renault Tanger-Med industrial complex) and a mature and dense productive fabric, including world-renowned equipment manufacturers.
Strengthening the training offer for the automotive trades: signing of four agreements for the support of ecosystem skills in the sector
As part of the reinforcement of the training device, strategic axis of the Industrial Acceleration Plan, four conventions on the support of automotive ecosystem competences were signed, during AMT 2019, by the Government, AMICA, PSA Morocco Group and Renault Morocco Group.
These agreements aim to adapt training in certain automotive trades to the needs of the sector’s ecosystems. The aim is to support the dynamics of the automotive industry by providing operators with a supply of skilled labor that adapts to the demand generated by the sector.
