The Covid-19 health crisis has had a heavy impact on the half-yearly achievements of the Low Cost company. Air Arabia indeed suffered a net loss of 169 million Emirati dirhams (approximately 37 million euros) in the first half of 2020. This loss is mainly due to the sharp drop in activity during the second quarter, during which the cancellations regular flights have multiplied.
Thus, the group’s turnover stood at 1.02 billion Emirati dirhams, a decrease of 53% compared to 2.17 billion achieved a year earlier. In terms of passenger traffic, 2.48 million were transported from the group’s 4 hubs, a decrease of 57%. “The results for the first half of 2020 were largely affected by the second quarter which saw the most severe impact of Covid-19 on airline operations,” said Air Arabia.
The regular flight schedule has been affected by airport closures and the suspension of flights. Much of the operations during the second quarter relied on repatriation, charter and freight flights.
