After the announcement of its new malls last week in Cannes, the Aksal group has just delivered new details on these projects. The retail specialist, led by Salwa Idrissi Akhannouch intends to maintain the level reached with Morocco Mall Casablanca, the forerunner. This is the case with a very daring architecture and a design with international standards.
In Marrakech, the future mall with a semi-open concept will be located on Mohammed VI Avenue. The style of the storefront will be inspired by the surrounding mountains of the High Atlas, with a design that will implement a series of landscaped terraces leading to a rooftop garden. The spaces will be “carved” directly onto the rock-style facade, according to Aksal.
The project is signed by Singapore’s highly respected DP Architects, the same firm that shaped the Dubai Mall. All the roofs of the mall will be painted green, for another nod to nature. Visible from a high altitude, they will become a new visual cue for passengers to and from Marrakech airport.
An aviary, a butterfly enclosure, and many water features will adorn this structure whose design will culminate with the main attraction consisting of an outdoor waterfall and an artificial river located in the center of the mall extends over 135,000 m² including 50,000 m² of sales area.
Visitors will enjoy shopping, boat rides, musical fountains, snow villages, and plenty of entertainment and dining options. The mall will also meet the specific needs of the different segments of the market, as it will offer areas that will be entirely dedicated to luxury and high-end, but also more accessible shopping areas. The Marrakech mall will also stand out by the integration of a residential component in a city where tourism remains king and will be declined later.
In Rabat, the architecture is also put forward with a complex signed by the same architects as Marrakech. The site, whose construction is expected to start shortly, according to the group, is located on a plot of 4.3 hectares on the banks of the Bouregreg with a direct view of the Mohammed V Mausoleum and the Grand Theater of Rabat. The distinctive element of Morocco Mall Rabat is especially the marriage between the urban and the landscape with an inspiration drawn from the light and the nature.
It is characterized by a giant canopy that will maintain a central space open to the light of day. It is in this central atrium that the main attraction will take place with waterfalls, vegetation and a giant aquarium in the background. Roofs, for their part, will be fully covered with greenery to integrate into the environment.
As announced, the total investment of the two malls will exceed two billion Dirhams with an opening planned in 2022. The marketing has already begun for the two future centers with 40% of the area already reserved by prestigious brands, according to Aksal. Among them will appear, without doubt the flagship brands partners as Zara but also Yan & One, brand of cosmetics belonging to the group Aksal.
