Algeria: Pressure rise on Bouteflika’s 5th term

Algerian students are still in the street on Tuesday to protest against Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s fifth term. Several thousand students demonstrated in the center of the capital where no demonstration has been authorized since 2001.

“Hey Bouteflika, there will be no 5th term”, “Bring back the commandos of the army and the BIS (police intervention unit), there will be no 5th term”, chanted the students.

The police did not intervene and no incidents were reported. The candidacy of the incumbent president has been filed despite the popular protest. Bouteflika promised not to complete his term in case of reelection.
