The judicial police of Marrakech arrested, on Tuesday, a Bulgarian national suspected of piracy of bank accounts and their use in the access to automatic data processing systems of customers of Moroccan banks.
The first elements of the investigation reveal that the suspect (32 years old), who had access to Moroccan soil as a tourist, used special techniques to copy bank data of users of automated teller machines (ATMs), says the DGSN. In a statement they said he was later transferring the data into blank bank cards for use in withdrawing money from Moroccan ATMs.
The investigations carried out by the judicial police services led to the arrest of the suspect in the act of withdrawing money from a bank branch in the center of Marrakech, the DGSN said, adding that search operation in the hotel where he resides has enabled the seizure of a dozen blank magnetic bank cards, tools used in the copying operation and piracy of bank data from ATMs, computer equipment, as well as sums of money in national currency and currency, suspected of being the booty of his criminal activities.
The respondent was placed in custody at the disposal of the investigation conducted by the competent prosecutor’s office, in order to identify all the similar criminal activities in which he is involved and determine the sums of money he stole, concludes the same source.
