The Hassan II Grand Prix of tennis hits hard this year with the participation of number 3 in the ATP ranking for the first time in the history of this world meeting of the small ball, placed under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI.
The 35th edition of the Hassan II Grand Prix, which will take place from 7 to 14 April at the Royal Tennis Club in Marrakech, will be marked by the presence of the German Alexander Zverev, currently number 3 worldwide, a first participation of this caliber in the history of this tournament, said the president of the Royal Tennis Club of the city ocher, Aziz Tifnouti, at a press conference on Sunday, for the presentation of this edition.
And to add that this event, organized for the fourth consecutive year in Marrakech, hosts a high plateau, worthy of the biggest tournaments on the circuit, with the presence of tennis players in the top 50 of the ATP ranking, including the Italian Fognini (17th), Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta (21st, first participation) and Briton Kyle Edmund (22nd, finalist of the 34th edition of the Prize), in addition to Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Guido Andreozzi of Argentina, Slovenian Bedene Aljaz, Italian Matteo Berretini, and Tunisian Ziad Jaziri.
Regarding the Moroccan participation, Lamine Ouahab and Amine Ahouda each benefited from a “Wild Card” to take part in this 35th edition, taking into account the results obtained both at the national level and during their participation in certain international tournaments, Tifnouti noted.
He also highlighted the huge efforts made by the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation (FRMT) to ensure the success of this 35th edition and make it an exceptional tournament that stands out from previous tournaments, stressing that the preparations required renovations of the various infrastructures of the club which now has 10 courts equipped with lighting and ready to welcome this edition in the best conditions.
On the other hand, he noted that the Royal Tennis Club of Marrakech, in cooperation with the FRMT, is working on the establishment of a museum dedicated to the documentation of the various editions of the Hassan II Grand Prix since its launch in 1984.
For his part, the vice-president of the FRMT, Aziz Laaraf pointed out that the Hassan II Grand Prix has a special interest from the world champions of the discipline, indicating that the Federation has mobilized all necessary means for the success of this edition, marked by the participation of players of international renown.
Endowed with a prize of 560.000 euros, of which 90.000 euros to the winner, this tournament was placed under the direction of the former Moroccan tennis champion Hicham Arazi, which brings him experience, credibility and wisdom.
For this edition, the Hassan II Grand Prix has set up two unmissable events, namely an exhibition match on April 6 in the Place Jamâa El Fna, just to put the public Marrakchi in the bath of the festivities, and the “Kids Day”, scheduled for April 10, an opportunity for the youngest to discover the courts, the atmosphere of the tournament and the backstage tennis, remember.
