Moroccan international Adel Taarabt has just renewed his contract with Benfica until 2022, the club said on its official website.
The 30-year-old midfielder was summoned by Benfica coach Bruno Lage and joined the first team for the finals of the championship, the source said.
“I am very happy. I think this extension of contract is a vote of confidence. I am very proud that the club trusts me,” said Taarabt at the signing of the contract, quoted by the press service of Benfica.
He also mentioned the good start of the national champion’s season: “we had a good start, but we are still at the beginning of the season and we are focused on goals,” said the player.
“It was the best start possible,” he added, welcoming the result of the first match of last season against Paços de Ferreira last Saturday, which ended with a landslide victory for Benfica, 5 goals to 0.
“I feel comfortable, that’s for sure. I have never lost confidence because I know what I can give to the team and I am here to help and contribute,” concluded Taarabt.
