The two Moroccan internationals Achraf Hakimi (Borussia Dortmund) and Hakim Ziyech (Ajax Amsterdam) are in the short list of 30 players vying for the CAF Awards 2019 trophy in the category of best African player of the year, announced the African Football Confederation (CAF) on its official website.
The Borussia Dortmund player is also on the short list of prospective players for the CAF Awards trophy in the category “African Hope of the Year”, said one source.
Ismail El Haddad and Walid El Karti, the two Moroccan players of Wydad Casablanca are nominated for the title of African Player Interclubs of the Year.
Confederation Cup finalist Berkane Mounir Jaouani’s sports revival trainer, alongside Esperance de Tunis coach Moîne Chaâbani and Faouzi Benzarti, nominated for his Wydad Athletic Club performance, in the shortlist of “African Team Coach of the Year”.
The list of candidates for the CAF Awards is drawn up by a panel of professionals from the media and the football community. It offers several award categories for men’s and women’s football, including: African Player of the Year, African Coach of the Year, African Champion of the Year, African National Team of the Year, Goal of the Year, Africa Finest XI, the Federation of the Year and several other new categories of awards that will honor inspiring personalities and outstanding contributions to African football.
The African Interclub Player of the Year award has been reintroduced for the 2019 CAF Awards and will be reserved for major players in the African Football Confederation club competitions.
The ceremony of the 28th edition of the CAF Awards will take place on January 7 in Hurghada, Egypt.
