Morocco has recorded over the past 24 hours some 326 new Covid-19 contaminations, bringing to 17562 the total number of cases declared in the Kingdom since the appearance of the pandemic last March, reported Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health.
Among these new cases, 91% (296 cases) were identified as part of the operation to follow up contacts and epidemic foci, he said, adding that the cumulative infection rate was thus established at 48.4 per 100,000 and remains very low compared to the world average of 188.7 per 100,000 inhabitants.
In terms of number of infections, the Kingdom ranks 63rd in the world and arrives 6th in Africa and 12th in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (according to the WHO breakdown), while in the ranking based on the rate of infection per capita, Morocco occupies 129th place globally and 12th place on the continent, said Mouad Mrabet.
In addition, according to the figures presented by the official, the region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceïma still keeps the top of the ranking with 181 new cases of infection identified during the last 24 hours, always followed by Fez-Meknes with 64 case. The ranking by city puts Tangier in the lead with the heaviest toll of the day, 167 contaminations. Then come the cities of Fez and Casablanca with 59 and 48 cases respectively.
The Ministry of Health also announced 211 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cases recovered to date to 15132, a remission rate of around 86.2%, given that the global average is around 60%.
As for the deaths, their number rose to 276 cases, with 3 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours. These deaths occurred in the cities of Fez (2) and Berrechid (1). The case fatality rate remained stabilized at 1.6%, falling below the global (4.1%) and African (2.1%) averages.
In addition, the ministry reported some 18121 cases excluded during the last 24 hours following analyzes carried out in the laboratory, bringing to 1010211 the total of cases excluded to date in the Kingdom.
For its part, the number of active cases rose to 2154 people distributed as follows: Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceïma (783), Fez-Meknes (496), Casablanca-Settat (355), Marrakech-Safi (201), Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (98), Oriental (83), Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (68), Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (22), Guelmim-Oued Noun (20), Beni Mellal-Khenifra (17), Souss-Massa (8) and Draâ-Tafilalet (3).
Of these 2154 active cases, 33 are in serious condition, of which 10 are put on life support. They are spread over the following 6 regions: Casablanca-Settat (10), Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceïma (9), Marrakech-Safi (8), Fez-Meknes (3), Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (2) and Beni Mellal-Khenifra (1).
