Mohamed Lyoubi held a press conference in Rabat on Thursday after the announcement of the second case of coronavirus in Morocco. The director of epidemics at the Ministry of Health said that the 89-year-old woman affected by the virus is in very critical condition, adding that she was placed in intensive care in a hospital in Casablanca. The official also said that the patient, who suffers from a chronic illness, landed in Morocco on February 25 from Italy.
Lyoubi also pointed out that the passengers on the plane on which the victim was traveling are closely monitored by the services of the Ministry of Health.
“The family of the octogenarian whose infection with the disease has been confirmed as well as the passengers are placed in isolation. These people are in solitary confinement in order to comply with hygienic conditions in order to contain the disease,” said the official.
Recall that the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday evening that it had registered a second case of the new coronavirus confirmed at the laboratory of the Institut Pasteur-Maroc, of a Moroccan woman from Italy.
“As part of the epidemiological monitoring and surveillance system and in execution of its communication policy, the Ministry of Health announces to public opinion that a second case of the new coronavirus has been registered and confirmed at the laboratory of the Institut Pasteur-Maroc of a Moroccan citizen from Italy, and this Wednesday evening,” said the ministry in a press release.
The services of the Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the Ministry of Health have taken the necessary measures to support this case, in accordance with national and international health security standards.
The Ministry of Health will continue to communicate with the public and keep them informed of all developments as it has been doing since the onset of this global health emergency, the statement said.
