The MAScIR Foundation, a research/development institution based in Rabat, designs the first 100% Moroccan diagnostic kit for Covid-19, tested and validated by the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie and the Institut Pasteur in Paris.
With its experience of ten years in the development of molecular diagnostic kits, MAScIR (Moroccan Foundation for advanced science, innovation and research), undertook, from the beginning of the global health crisis due to Covid19, to develop an RT-PCR diagnostic test for this pathogen, which has the characteristics of being specific, with a high degree of sensitivity and reliability and at controlled cost, indicates a press release from the foundation.
Once developed in its medical biology laboratories, MAScIR submitted this test to a series of validation processes in reference biological and virological centers, at national and international level, and which made it possible to attest its effectiveness and reliability, says MAScIR, while thanking the public authorities, in particular the Ministries of Interior and Economy, Finance and Administrative Reform as well as the Ministry of Health for their support and monitoring.
The foundation particularly thanks, in its press release, the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the National Institute of Hygiene, the Casablanca University Hospital who actively participated in the tests of the test developed, by opening their laboratories in Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech and Meknes.
At the end of the tests, the test developed by MAScIR obtained the validation of approved national and foreign laboratories, in particular of the Royal Armed Forces and the Royal Gendarmerie as well as of the Pasteur Institute of Paris, placing it thus at the same level as tests used internationally, notes the same source.
The MAScIR Foundation warmly thanks the managers and scientists of the national laboratories as well as the Directorate of Medicines and Pharmacy (DMP) for their support and their responsiveness.
Created in 2007, MAScIR is a Moroccan foundation which aims to promote and develop research and development centers in Morocco that meet the country’s needs in advanced technologies, especially in the medical biology sector.
Due to its vocation and ambition to actively support innovation for the benefit of the national economic and industrial fabric and thus contribute to energy, food and health security in Morocco, the MAScIR Foundation has qualified human resources and equipment for cutting edge technology, which have enabled it, in the space of twelve years, to file 180 patents with extensions at the African regional level, to produce 650 scientific articles in journals of international renown and to carry out more than a hundred projects and achievements with national and foreign industrialists, thus showing its maturity and its capacities in scientific research and applied research.
