Coronavirus: The Ministry of Health adopted a new protocol in Morocco

The home treatment protocol for asymptomatic coronavirus patients went into effect last week, the health ministry said.

To this end, following the recommendations of the scientific and technical advisory committee, the Ministry of Health adopted a new protocol on the care and home treatment of asymptomatic patients with coronavirus, under well-defined conditions, a underlined the coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health, Mouad Mrabet, in the weekly statement on the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom.

The Covid-19 case management protocol only concerns asymptomatic cases that do not represent any clinical sign and meet certain conditions, such as the absence of risk factors such as advanced age, chronic diseases, pregnancy or breastfeeding, he said, adding that this process applies to people who meet favorable requirements to self-isolate for a minimum of 14 days, including a well-ventilated single room and the absence of vulnerable people living under the same roof.

This operation is done with the consent of the patient, indicates Mr. Mrabet, noting that the patient must sign a declaration on his honor, according to which he undertakes to respect the confinement and the instructions put in place by the local and health authorities.

Regarding the geographical distribution of Covid-19 infections in the Kingdom, Mr. Mrabet stressed that the regions of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Fès-Meknes, Marrakech-Safi and Casablanca-Settat were the most exposed to the virus, with more than 30 cases per 100,000 people, followed by the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Draâ-Tafilalet and Dakhla-Oued Dahab, with 10 to 20 infections per 100,000 people.

The regions of the Oriental, Beni Mellal-Khénifra, Souss-Massa, Guelmim-Oued Noun and Laâyoune-Sakia Et Hamra, were the least exposed to the virus last week with less than 10 cases per 100,000 people.

In addition, the official noted that Morocco carried out some 154,774 Covid-19 screening tests last week, 4.3% more, compared to the week before.

Thus, according to the latest statistics, Morocco occupies 58th place globally and 6th continentally in terms of the number of cases of Covid-19 infection, said the coordinator.

The Kingdom is indeed ranked 61st globally and 6th continentally in terms of number of deaths, 33rd globally and 2nd in Africa in terms of Covid-19 screening tests, he continues.

Interacting with citizens’ questions via the WhatsApp application on the number “0761855020”, Mr. Mrabet revealed that the washable cloth protective masks should be washed after 4 hours of use at 60° degree for 30 minutes using a cleaner.

Separately, he stressed the importance of washing hands with soap or a hydroalcoholic solution, noting that water alone is ineffective in destroying the virus.

Finally, as part of the ministry’s awareness-raising messages, the coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health stressed that it is important to keep protective masks in cafes and restaurants and remove them only for eating or drinking, as well as respecting physical distancing, calling for continuous ventilation of closed spaces.
