The new Digital 2021 report series, released in partnership with We Are Social and Hootsuite, shows that technology, as a whole, has become an even more essential part of people’s lives over the past year: social media, e-commerce, streaming content and video games all showing significant growth in the past 12 months.
The current Covid-19 pandemic has also introduced a new set of challenges and opportunities, so that in 2021, digital will be anything but another kind of business.
With regard to Morocco, the report announces, among other things, that the Kingdom had 37.13 million inhabitants in January 2021. The Moroccan population increased by 436000 inhabitants (+1.2%) between January 2020 and January 2021. 50.4% of the Moroccan population is female, while 49.6% of the population is male. 63.8% of the Moroccan population lives in urban centers, while 36.2% lives in rural areas.
Regarding the Internet, more and more present in the daily life of Moroccans and this regardless of age category or social class, in January 2021, Morocco had 27.62 million Internet users. The number of internet users in Morocco increased by 2.3 million (+9.1%) between 2020 and 2021. In January 2021, there were 22 million social media users in Morocco.
Also, the number of social network users in Morocco increased by 4.0 million (+22%) between 2020 and 2021. The number of social network users in Morocco was equivalent to 59.3% of the total population in January 2021.
As for the means of connectivity, Moroccans seem to favor the phone. In fact, there were 43.47 million mobile connections in Morocco in January 2021. The number of mobile connections in Morocco decreased by 216000 (-0.5%) between January 2020 and January 2021. The number of mobile connections in Morocco in January 2021 was equivalent to 117.1% of the total population.
