The streaming platform Spotify announced that Moroccan rapper ElGrandeToto was the most streamed artist in Morocco, the Middle East and North Africa in 2021, with more than 50 million streams for his debut album “Chameleon” released last March.
Second on the podium of the most listened to artists, we find the Moroccan rapper “Inkonnu”, the first Arab rapper to appear in the world ranking of Spotify. Tagne for his part grabbed third place on the podium of the most listened artists in Morocco. The K-pop group BTS finds itself in 6th place and finds itself first international artist in Morocco, closely followed by Drake who finishes 7th.
For the most listened to titles, ElGrandeToto also holds the first place in Morocco with “Mghayer”, followed by CKay and his title “love nwantiti (feat. ElGrandeToto) – North African Remix” and by Tagne which brings up the rear of the top 3 with “Nadi Canadi”. In total, ElGrandeToto is present 6 times in the top 10 of the most listened to songs, followed by Inkonnu present 3 times.
Unsurprisingly, ElGrandeToto holds the most listened to album in Morocco, followed by Inkonnu and Stormy, while the first album by an international artist comes in 9th place with the posthumous album “Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon” by American rapper Pop Smoke shot dead in 2020.
The press release also underlines the excellent performance of the ABAT∑RA playlist made up of rap songs “made in Morocco” and which has seen millions of streams since September, quickly becoming the second most popular Spotify playlist in Morocco, behind the playlist Today’s Top Maghreb Hits.
As of Thursday, December 2, eligible users will also be able to access the personalized Wrapped experience, the statement said, exclusively through the Spotify mobile app.
