The German Cooperation Agency GIZ launched Wednesday a project to support the improvement of energy infrastructure in the Oriental (APIELO), to promote energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) in the region.
This project, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, will receive funding of over MAD 40 million. It aims to support public and private actors for the implementation of energy policy at the regional level, in order to stimulate the development of sustainable local market in renewable energy and EE.
This is the first project of the GIZ deployed at regional level. The first line of intervention of this initiative concerns advisory support to regional, provincial and local institutions with a view to concretizing on their territory the strategic orientations and strategic objectives in EE and RE decided at national level. APIELO will support the implementation of 10 sustainable energy projects, 5 in urban and 5 in rural areas, to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of these green technologies.
