Essaouira joins the UNESCO Creative Cities Network

The city of Essaouira, famous for its Festivals of music including the Festival Gnaoua and World Music and the Festival of Atlantic Andalusia, joined the Network of Creative Cities of UNESCO, announced Wednesday the United Nations Education, Science and Culture, on the eve of the celebration of World Cities Day.

This network brings together cities that base their development on creativity, be it music, crafts and popular arts, design, cinema, literature, digital arts or gastronomy. Thus, Essaouira (Music) and 65 other creative cities joined this network bringing to 246 the total number of communities participating.

Among these new creative cities are the French city of Angoulême (Literature), Bangkok (Design), Beirut (Literature), Bendigo/Australia (Gastronomy), Bergamo/Italy (Gastronomy), Caldas da Rainha/Portugal (Crafts and popular arts ), Kazan/Russia (Music), Llíria/Spain (Music), Merida/Mexico (Gastronomy), Muharraq/Bahrain (Design), Mumbai/India (Film), Nanjing/China (Literature), Ramallah/Palestine (Music), Sharjah (Arts and Crafts), Yangzhou/China (Gastronomy) …
