Fez: 18% increase in overnight stays at the end of October

Tourist overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments in the Idrisside city increased by 18% at the end of October in 2018, compared with the same period of the previous year.

Some 913,000 overnight stays were recorded during the first ten months of the current year, compared with 771,597 overnight stays during the same period of 2017, according to statistics from the National Observatory of Tourism.

In terms of arrivals in classified hotels, they reached 489,286 at the end of October of the current year, against 407,815 during the same period of the year before, an increase of 20%.

The average length of stay during this period was 2 days, a rate identical to that achieved during the same period of 2017, notes the Observatoire National du Tourisme.

This tourism performance is mainly explained by the rise recorded by the issuing markets, including Italy, China, the USA, Spain, Germany, France and the Netherlands, as well as the Arab countries.

Last October saw a 4% increase compared to the same month of 2017, with a total of 125,475 overnight stays.

The number of operational rooms during the month of October was estimated at 4,498 units, including 1,190 of category 5 stars, 1,272 of 4 stars and 696 of 3 stars, as well as 765 rooms in the guest houses.

At the national level, the total nights registered in the various tourist accommodation establishments classified at the end of October 2018 increased by 9pc compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the Observatoire du tourisme.

This performance is due to an increase in the number of non-resident tourists (+ 12%) and resident tourists (+ 1%).

In 2017, a total of 947,749 tourist nights were recorded by classified accommodation establishments in Fes, confirming the improvement of the tourism sector in the spiritual capital of the Kingdom.

This result represents an increase of 39% compared to 2016, which recorded 683,052 overnight stays, according to the Observatory.
