The Wali of Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), Abdellatif Jouahri, maintained his position, for the fourth consecutive year, in the top 10 of the best central bankers, according to the latest ranking of the American magazine Global Finance. It earned an A rating, the best awarded by the New York magazine in its Central Banker Report Cards 2020, BAM said in a statement.
The Central Banker Report Cards, published annually by Global Finance since 1994. It ranks central bank governors of over 90 key countries in addition to the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States and the Central Bank of West African States, the statement said.
Joseph Giarraputo, editor and editorial director at Global Finance, quoted by the press release, also indicates that this report analyzes the situation of countries with leadership in the conduct of their economy. The document also highlights the effective orientations of monetary policies.
The scores are classified on a scale from A to F. They take into account the performance achieved in terms of controlling inflation, achieving economic growth objectives, monetary stability and managing interest rates. So, “A” represents excellent performance and “F” represents total failure. Other subjective criteria are also taken into account in this classification.
Other central bankers who obtained an “A” rating are Philip Lowe (Australia), Roberto Campos Neto (Brazil), Dimitar Radev (Bulgaria), Mario Marcel Cullell (Chile), Mohammad Yousef Al-Hashel (Kuwait), Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus (Malaysia), Julio Velarde Flores (Peru), Lee Ju-yeol (South Korea) and Yang Chin-long (Taiwan).
