Golf World Cup: Belgium crowned for the first time

The pair Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry offered Belgium its first World Cup golf, a biennial competition between national teams of two players in stroke play on four rounds (two fourballs and two foursomes). On the course of the Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne (Australia), the Belgians started the fourth round in foursome (a team ball played alternately by each member of the duo) leading with five shots in advance.

A perfect approach to hole 18 allowed the Belgians to finish on a 68 (-4) card and keep 3 shots ahead of Australia and Mexico who share 2nd place.

Denmark defending their title with Thorbjorn Olesen and Soren Kjeldsen finished on a 65 (-7) card that allowed them to share the 4th place with Canada (Adam Hadwin, Nick Taylor), 6 shots from Belgium.
