Huawei presented on Saturday in China its first Smart TV to be released next Thursday and will be equipped with its own operating system, the “HarmonyOS”.
The Chinese telecoms giant enters a market dominated until then by the South Korean Samsung and LG, and the Japanese Sony and Panasonic. Smart TV will be marketed by Huawei’s second smartphone brand, Honor, to a younger audience, CEO George Zhao said Saturday.
The device has been designed as a widescreen extension of the smartphone and works with the same ecosystem. The contents can be synchronized and switched from one medium to another, explained the manufacturer. Note that the operating system “HarmonyOS” is an alternative if unable to use Android because of US sanctions.
