The Chinese group Nexteer Automotive, a global equipment manufacturer specializing in the manufacture of steering and transmission systems, inaugurated Wednesday in Kenitra its first production site in Africa, for an investment of more than 35 million dollars.
With a surface area of 10,000 m², the plant plans to recruit 500 employees in the Atlantic Free Zone (AFZ) of Kenitra, will in particular ensure the production of sprocket power steering systems (SPES for Single Pinion-assist Electric Power Steering). It will have to position itself as the first factory for the Chinese firm in Africa and the 25th in the world.
The inauguration of this plant was given by the Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Alami and the Vice President of Nexteer Automative, Hervé Boyer in the presence of the Secretary of State in charge of the vocational training, Mohamed Rherras, of the governor of the province of Kenitra, Fouad M’hamdi, and several leaders of the group.
Its main mission is the manufacture of electric power steering systems (EPS) and transmission systems for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), PSA and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi.
The equipment manufactured at the Kenitra plant on behalf of the PSA Group will include single-gear EPS systems, top-quality steering systems, a Nexteer specialty currently used in AC segment vehicles for customers such as BMW and the PSA group. Among the transmission systems that will also be produced in this plant, Nexteer will manufacture half-shafts for the new generations of some of the best-selling models of FCA, PSA and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi.
