Morocco will be represented by four members on the commissions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the year 2020, the international body announced on Thursday.
The president of the Royal Moroccan Volleyball Federation, Bouchra Hajij, will sit on the Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission, while the former Moroccan athlete Hicham El Guerrouj has been appointed member of the Athletes’ Entourage Commission, and the Vice-President of the Moroccan National Olympic Committee, Kamal Lahlou, will be a member of the Marketing Commission, said the IOC on its website.
The composition of the commissions of the International Olympic Committee for 2020, which is established by the IOC President in close collaboration with the IOC Executive Board, also includes the appointment of Nawal Moutawakel who will sit on four commissions.
Member of the IOC Executive Committee since 1997, the Moroccan woman was appointed member of the Public Affairs and Social Development through Sport, Communication, Coordination of the 4th Dakar Youth Olympic Games 2022 and Coordination of the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad in Los Angeles 2028, said the same source.
The composition of these committees for 2020 is marked by an increase in the proportion of women in these committees, said the same source, adding that 47.7% of positions in the 30 committees are now occupied by women, against 45.4% in 2019.
