The telecoms operator INWI received the Smart City Africa Grand Prix on November 27, 2018 in Paris for its project to deploy a very high speed WiFi network in the Casablanca tramway. The award was presented to Nadia Fassi-Fehri, President and CEO of INWI as part of Smart City Forum.
This major event, held at the Paris City Hall, has the assigned objective of reflecting on new economic models, new practices in the territories, the impact of the digital revolution on the city and reward the most innovative Smart City initiatives.
It is in this context that Smart City Forum 2018 chose to dedicate the project called Wifi M3ak (Wifi with you) of INWI. An innovative and structuring project for the future of a metropolis like Casablanca, led by the company in partnership with Casa Transport. Wifi M3ak of INWI allowed the deployment of a very high speed WiFi network on the Casablanca tramway.
It is also a real technical feat, as it is the first time that very high speed connection devices are installed on rolling stock at Kingdom level. In all, INWI has equipped the 74 trains of the city’s tramway with the latest generation of adapted equipment, resistant to shocks, jolts and various climatic and environmental conditions.
It is then a project that meets a real need among the citizens of Casablanca. Since March 2018, Wifi M3ak allows the 125,000 daily users of the tram to benefit from a free, secure and stable connection.
“Wifi M3ak is a service that allows millions of Tram users to have Wi-Fi on board and take full advantage of their commute time to share, enjoy, learn or get information through a continuous and stable connection” says INWI’s president.
