Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Marrakech maintains its position as one of the main tourist centers in Morocco and in the world. The World Travel Awards ranked the famous Moroccan city among the nominees for the best city destination in the world 2020.
The city of Marrakech, one of Morocco’s leading tourist hubs, competes with 20 other cities around the world for price. The list includes Dubai, New York, Las Vegas, London, Moscow, Paris and Sydney. Tourism institutions in Marrakech appear in a multitude of sub price categories. Thus, “La Mamounia”, “Royal Mansour” and “Selman” hotels in Marrakech fall into the “Best hotels in the world” category, or the “Mandarin Oriental” in Marrakech as “Best luxury resort in the world”. For its part, “Mazagan” in El Jadida is nominated in the category “Best Beach & Casino Resort in the world”.
At the African level, the Moroccan National Tourist Office has been named in the category “First African tourist office”, the “Royal Air Maroc” for the “First African airline”, or the international airport of Casablanca Mohammed V in the “Africa’s premier airport” category. The winners will be announced on November 27 in Moscow.
Despite the increase in Covid-19 cases in Morocco, Marrakech maintains its position as a favorite destination for international tourists. In August, the TripAdvisor travel platform ranked the city among the top 25 destinations in the world. In March, the travel platform also reaffirmed Marrakech’s position as a major tourist hub. Last year, the number of tourists visiting Morocco reached 13 million. Marrakech alone attracted nearly three million visitors in 2019, making it the most popular destination in the North African country. The red city remains a magical place to visit in Morocco. Despite, Marrakech is still closed due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.
The Moroccan government, however, has eased restrictions to allow entry for international travelers who have hotel reservations. Businessmen can also enter the Kingdom if they have formal invitations from Moroccan companies.
