The city of Meknes will host the first edition of the International Arab Film Festival (FIFAM) from June 14th to 21st. The Meknès-Azzaytoune Alkobra Association, the main initiator of this event, aspires to create a local film dynamic, contribute to anchor a cinematographic culture in the region and encourage artistic and cultural events aimed at raising the level of cinematographic creativity. ”FIFAM will be based on the concept of openness to quality Arab cinematographic productions, in all forms of cinematographic creativity, in terms of the screenplay, the characters, the image and the realization, far from everything commercial spirit”, according to the director of the festival, the actor and director Driss Roukh.
The festival can create a “sharp and serious” debate on cinema in particular and the essence of culture in general, while highlighting many cultural, social and economic issues that concern the Arab citizen in general, he writes in a note introducing this new cinematographic rendezvous.
For this first edition, organized in partnership with the City Council of Meknes, the Fez-Meknes region and the Ministry of Culture, Egyptian cinema will be honored. A strong delegation, led by the president of the National Council of Cinematography, Khalid Abdeljalil, will make the trip to Meknes. Tributes will be paid to actress Nabila Oubeid and actors Mahmoud Kabil and Amrou Saad. Also in this section, FIFAM will pay a vibrant tribute to one of the icons of Moroccan cinema, Mohammed Miftah, as well as the Algerian actor Sidi Ahmed Agoumi.
For one week, the festival will offer a rich program of films from the official competition, those of Moroccan and Egyptian panoramas, as well as training workshops, master classes and brainstorming sessions on the current state of Arab film production. This first edition of FIFAM will welcome no less than 15 Arab countries, spread over the different sections of the program. The festival will be crowned with the awarding of several prizes, including the Grand Prix, the projection prizes, the screenplay, the best actress, the best actor, as well as the public prize of Meknes-Azzaytoun Alkoubra.
