Nine operators have so far obtained the approval of the mobile payment institution, said Tuesday in Rabat, Wali Bank Al-Maghrib Abdellatif Jouahri, adding that the first operations will take place in the coming days. “We started with the approval of payment institutions (…) now there are nine that have been awarded”, said Jouahri during a press conference at the end of the fourth and final quarterly session. board of Bank Al-Maghrib.
“However, there is a whole series of events that need to be followed to get the business started,” he said and emphasized, among other things, the technological approval of the mobile switch to which basic interoperability.
Mr Jouahri also recalled that Bank Al-Maghrib “issued a circular and an explanatory letter to bring people into line with this regulation”. “We will not wait until everyone is ready to get started,” he said. This indicates that the tests that have been started with the operators are convincing.
Emphasizing the fact that mobile banking is one of the pillars of financial inclusion, Jouahri said that Bank Al-Maghrib “has completed a study on the national financial inclusion strategy that will shortly be submitted to the government”.
“We will provide the structures to operationalize this national strategy for financial inclusion,” he said.
