Young prodigy U19 Dutch, Mohammed Ihattaren, who caught the eye of Vahid, is the subject of a big rivalry between Morocco and the Netherlands. They do not want to relive the nightmare of Hakim Ziyech.
The nugget of PSV Eindhoven, Mohammed Ihattaren is the subject of a bitter battle between the Moroccan and Dutch federations. At just 17 years old, the young player had shown an extraordinary potential that fuels the greed of both countries.
The new Atlas Lions coach, Vahid Halilhodzic, is even making it a priority by calling him to the next national team camp in September. However, the young prodigy who plays as a midfielder with the U19 Dutch gives himself time to choose the selection where he intends to evolve.
In a statement to Fox Sport, Ihattaren was very clear: “I am very honored to be part of the (Vahid) preselection. It is very beautiful. But I will not make my choice for the moment. And to add: “What will guide my choice? I just want to play, be important and make a name for myself. If it’s with the Dutch national team, it’s beautiful. If it’s in the Moroccan team, it’s good too.”
To avoid the precedent of the Hakim Ziyech, Mezraoui or the Amrabat brothers who had chosen to play for the Moroccan selection, the Dutch federation puts pressure on Ihattaren to stay with the team.
The FRMF contacted the parents of Ihattaren to convince him to play for Morocco. Even if they seem convinced of the idea, the final choice is in the hands of the young player.
