Morocco: Arrest of several individuals suspected of belonging to terrorist cells

The General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) and the Judicial Police jointly conducted a large-scale operation that led to the arrest of several persons suspected of belonging to the radical Salafist movement.

A raid on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, to arrest several people suspected of belonging to the radical Salafist movement in the provinces of Sidi Kacem and Sidi Slimane, reports media. These people were transferred to the premises of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau (BCIJ), which is involved in the fight against terrorist cells.

The particular context of the provinces of Sidi Slimane and Sidi Kacem speaks volumes about this vast operation. In Sidi Slimane, many individuals joined the ranks of the radical Salafist movement. Over the years, this movement has achieved the status of “Main Registered Movement”. Better still, the same sources said that there have been, recently, the registration of many young people who have joined the terrorist organizations operating in Syria and Iraq.

Moreover, publicly defending the radical ideology, or even the recruitment of jihadists, on behalf of terrorist organizations, is the thing best maintained by some supporters of this movement.
