Morocco becomes net exporter of electricity

Morocco achieved its ambition in 2019 to become a net exporter of electricity. The country has, in fact, imported 149 million dirhams ($ 15 million) of electricity against an export of 570 million dirhams ($ 59 million), reports the agency Ecofin, which specifies that Spain was the main destination of these energy exports.

Note that, in addition to the good financial result, these figures now reveal the energy self-sufficiency of the country which produces enough electricity to cover its consumption. This was made possible by the entry into service of new electricity production capacities, in particular the 1.386 MW power plant at Safi, the same source said.
