Morocco remains the largest importer of Tunisian dates with 33,000 tons during the season from 1 October 2018 to 30 September, according to data published by the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.
“Tunisian dates have been exported to 73 destinations, including Morocco (33 thousand tons), the largest import market, followed by Spain with 9.500 tons”, generating record revenues of 871.3 million dinars (278 million euros) ), the ministry said.
Exports of Tunisian dates, for the 2018-19 season, have increased by more than 13% over the past season, to more than 120 thousand tons. The Tunisian production of dates reached 288 thousand tons, of which 228 thousand tons of the variety “Deglet Nour”.
The quantities of organic dates exported reached this season 9,200 tons, worth nearly 25 million euros.
Tunisia also saw its date exports increase to Canada (11%), Singapore (42%), Bangladesh (54%), Mali (65%) and Ivory Coast (44%), relieved the department.
