Morocco nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards

Morocco national football team nominated for Global Breakthrough of the Year at the 2023 Laureus World Sports Awards. “At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Morocco national team played stunning football to become the first African team to reach the semi-finals”, explain the organizers of this award.

The Atlas Lions thus feature alongside Carlos Alcaraz, the world’s youngest men’s No. 1 tennis player of all time, Elena Rybakina, who won her first Grand Slam title in 2022 and became the youngest champion women at Wimbledon, American figure skater Nathan Chen, three-time world champion and 2022 Olympic champion, and American golfer Sccottie Schenffler, who has six professional successes including the prestigious Masters in 2022.

The Laureus World Sports Awards, an annual awards ceremony honoring individuals, teams from across the world of sport and sporting achievement throughout the year, was established in 1999 by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, Daimler and Richemont . The shortlists for the seven categories (Sportswoman of the Year, Sportsman, Team, Breakthrough, Comeback, Action and Sport for Good) are created by votes from more than 1,000 sports media outlets from over 70 countries while the shortlist of World Athlete of the Year with a Disability is provided by the International Paralympic Committee.
