The work of the Russia-Africa Economic Forum, held as part of the Russia-Africa Summit, opened on Wednesday in Sochi under the theme “Russie-Africa: Revealing the Potential of Cooperation”, with the participation of Morocco.
The opening of the Economic Forum, chaired by Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi, and several African heads of state and leaders of several members of the Russian government, was marked by the presence of the Minister Energy, Mines and the Environment, Aziz Rebbah, and Minister for African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Mohcine Jazouli.
In a speech delivered on this occasion, the Russian President stressed that “the theme of this economic forum is very important and relevant, because the economic component is an essential link in our relations, hence the very hard work of preparing this event”.
“Africa is the growth center of the global economy, and in recent years bilateral trade has almost doubled to $ 20 billion, very little because development potential is very important and we hope doubling in the next five years our trade,” said Putin.
The Egyptian President underlined, in a similar intervention, that the potential for cooperation between Russia and Africa is bound to grow and diversify, welcoming the holding of this summit “which illustrates Russia’s commitment to help continent to meet its challenges”.
He called, in this sense, to “pool the efforts of African countries, Russia and international financial institutions to implement innovative and ambitious projects for the benefit of the people of the continent.”
The opening of the Economic Forum was marked by the presence in particular of the Director of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI), Mohamed Methqal, and the Moroccan Ambassador to Russia, Lotfi Bouchaara, in addition to several executives from different ministries and Moroccan agencies.
The Moroccan delegation present at the Forum, which runs from October 23 to October 24, will participate in many conferences related to economic, energy and cultural cooperation between Russia and Africa.
