Spain has sent 750 vehicles, 15 UAVs and dozens of radar equipment to Morocco to improve control of the migration, Spanish medi said.
Welcoming Morocco’s collaboration with Spain in the area of migration border control, media said that the collaboration had resulted in a “significant decrease in the arrival of migrants in Spain.” Some 13,326 irregular migrants arrived in Spain, “nearly 9,000 less than in the previous period”.
Media also recalled the Spanish activism in favor of the Moroccan government to the European Union, which led to the approval of a grant of 140 million euros stating that “the Council of Ministers approved the an additional 30 million euros from the provident fund in Morocco”.
Earlier this month, European media said Morocco’s efforts were helping to slow irregular migration in Spain. And to point out that the month of July ended on a significant decline in irregular migration. The security services intercepted 2,362 migrants and at sea, compared to 7,885 at the same time in 2018. The number of failed attempts in July represents a 70% decrease.
The director of immigration and border surveillance of the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior, Khalid Zerouali, said: “Together with Spain, we work in the best interests of minors”. And to add: “We are a responsible country ready to welcome these children. If they are really ours, we must first identify them to make sure they are Moroccan,” he explained.
The European Border and Border Guard Frontex declared that “the number of illegal border detections on Europe’s main migration routes has increased by 4% compared to the previous month, reach about 10,500”.
The agency added that the total for the first seven months of 2019 was “30% lower than last year, about 54,300.”
