Morocco is one of 22 national teams from the Arab world who have registered to participate in the FIFA Arab Cup.
During a visit to Lusail Stadium on Tuesday, FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that the first national teams from 22 Arab countries including Morocco have registered to participate in the tournament, which will be held from 2021 December 1 to 18 in Qatar, with a total of 32 matches played over 18 days.
“We are delighted that 22 teams from the Arab world have agreed to participate in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup, which will take place in stadiums of the next World Cup, and we look forward to seeing the best teams in the region compete against each other. Thanks to football, the tournament will bring together more than 450 million people from across the region and will undoubtedly help to increase enthusiasm as the first-ever FIFA World Cup staged in the Middle East and the Arab world is fast approaching,” said Gianni Infantino.
The nations of the Asian Football Confederation which will participate in the tournament are: Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Somalia, Sudan and Tunisia will represent the African Football Confederation at the inaugural tournament.
The tournament will be hosted by FIFA, the Qatar Football Association, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC.
This competition is seen as a vital opportunity to test operational facilities and stadiums ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the tournament is expected to take place in the same time slot as the World Cup.
The finals of the FIFA Arab Cup and the FIFA World Cup will take place exactly one year apart, each on December 18, Qatar’s national holiday.
“This tournament will bring together more than 450 million people from across the region, and we are confident that the FIFA Arab Cup will help generate excitement in the region as we move closer and closer to hosting the inaugural of the FIFA world cup in the Middle East and Arab countries. world in 2022,” added Infantino.
