The young Dijon midfielder, Mounir Chouiar, would have decided to wear the colors of the Atlas Lions in October.
The 20-year-old could play for Morocco in friendly matches against Libya on Oct. 11, and Gabon four days later.
“It is part of the expanded list, we should be fixed quickly on its intentions, but we would like to have it with us,” confirmed Team Vahid Halilhodzic, the coach of Morocco.
The former player of RC Lens (Ligue 2), who joined the DFCO during the summer transfer window, was born in France of a Mauritanian father and a Moroccan mother. Chouiar, who has already played for the Tricolores in under 16, 18, 19 and 20 years is eligible for all three selections.
Some Moroccan media say the player has agreed to defend his mother’s country of origin. But Mauritania would not have given up convincing it.
