Munir El Haddadi will not play for Morocco’s national team

Munir El Haddadi will not join Morocco’s national team. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Friday rejected the appeal of the player and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) to change sporting nationality.

“The appeal was dismissed by CAS and the FIFA ruling was upheld,” said the world’s top sporting authority. It recalled that the appeal had been filed following the decision rendered by the FIFA Players’ Status Committee on September 23 not to authorize Munir El Haddadi to change national federation, namely to leave the Spanish federation to join the Moroccan federation.

The move undermines the optimism of Morocco coach Vahid Halilhodzic. “I spoke this morning with my president (Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the FRMF), and there are a lot of positive things. We must also underline the very correct behavior of the Spanish federation despite this dispute”, he explained.

The reasons for the decision remain, for the time being, unknown.
