A few hours after the tweet of the American president, recognizing the Moroccan character of the Sahara, the head of the Israeli government Benyamin Netanyahu “thanked King Mohammed VI for this historic decision to make peace with Israel”. He also announced the resumption of “direct flights” between the two countries.
“I have always believed in this peace that is now coming to fruition before our eyes. I want to thank President Trump for leading these agreements and thank King Mohammed VI of Morocco for this historic decision to make peace with Israel,” the Israeli prime minister said in a televised speech. After this official address, he lit a candle for the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
Continuing his speech, Benjamin Netanyahu recalled that arrangements will be made for the establishment of liaison offices, then direct diplomatic relations and direct flights between the two countries. The normalization of this agreement was made official this Thursday in Washington by US President Donald Trump. He also signed a decree recognizing the sovereignty of Morocco over the Sahara region.
As a reminder, Morocco is the 4th country to normalize its relations with Israel after the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan.
