Not wearing a mask is a criminal offense in Morocco

Wearing a mask and social distancing are now mandatory, or face a fine. The bill imposing them, supplementing Legislative Decree No. 2.20.292, was unanimously adopted by the Moroccan parliament.

Failure to comply with barrier gestures, which recently blew up contamination counters, will henceforth be punished by a fine ranging from 300 to 1,300 dirhams in the event of a repeat offense.

According to specialists, the new measure could have disastrous consequences on the professional career of the offender, knowing that this type of offense, which differs from the contravention, is entered in the criminal record.

Applying for a job in the public administration or even in a private company may therefore be impossible for offenders, due to the lack of a clean criminal record. We will have to wait a year before the mention is erased.
