The American singer, a native of Barbados, Rihanna, has decided to sue her father for use of the family name for commercial purposes, reports Wednesday The Boston Globe. In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles federal court on Tuesday, Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, claims that her father, Ronald Fenty, and her business partner have stolen her trademark by suggesting that Fenty Entertainment is affiliated with the singer.
Rihanna, who has made a name for herself through a repertoire that mixes reggae and R&B sounds with a pop touch, said in her complaint that she had used, since 2012, her name for her line of cosmetics and other business affairs.
Fenty Entertainment, which is a talent production and promotion company, was founded in 2017. Rihanna’s complaint asks the Court of Justice to order Ronald Fenty to stop using his commercial identity, while requesting damages, which will be determined later, reports media.
