Rise in the price of cigarettes in Morocco

The selling price of cigarette packs increased for the second time in less than two years. The new tariffs came into effect Thursday, August 6, following the hike in import duties.

Following the adoption of the new amended Finance Law 2020, import duties for several consumer products have increased by 30 to 40%.

Manufactured tobacco, the tariffs of which were published on August 5 in the circular from the customs administration, has not escaped the rise. This has spread to products classified as premium, notably Winston and Marlboro.

In 2019, the increase in the internal consumption tax was absorbed by the 3 main operators in Morocco, to avoid a strong impact on the public price.
