Indian giant Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG) settles in Tanger Automotive City. While waiting to build its second production site there, SMG is working to obtain administrative permits related to the environmental impact of such a project.
India’s Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG) will soon begin construction of a second factory in Morocco. SMG wants to invest 150 million dirhams for the construction of a factory for manufacturing automotive interior systems in the Tanger Automotive City area. According to sources close to the Moroccan subsidiary of SMG, the inauguration of this second production unit, after that of Tétouan, will take place in 2021 and will employ more than a hundred employees. For the moment, the project is in the administrative authorization phase, especially with regard to its impact on the environment.
The plan to build this second production unit shows that Morocco remains attractive to large global groups, reports Challenge. It is in the top 3 of Indian auto parts manufacturers, with a 2018/19 consolidated turnover of 11.7 billion dollars and an industrial system of more than 270 factories distributed in forty countries around the world.
