Elements of national security at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca arrested a French-Algerian national, subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the French judicial authorities for the financing of terrorism, constitution of a criminal gang and apology for acts of terrorism.

The suspect, 36, was apprehended upon arrival at Casablanca International Airport Mohammed V from Algeria, said a statement from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), stating that the defendant has been subjected to arrest procedures after the checkpoint operation revealed that he had been the subject of an international arrest warrant from the French judicial authorities since 22 April 2016.

The defendant was placed in police custody under the extradition procedure, the statement said, adding that the national central office reporting to the DGSN informed the French authorities of this arrest.

This operation is part of the intense efforts of the national security services to strengthen the security control measures at the Kingdom’s border posts and international security cooperation mechanisms, in the fight against terrorism and cross-border organized crime, the statement said.
