The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristina Georgieva will pay a visit to Morocco from February 17 to 20.
“The visit will serve to discuss preparations for the World Bank Group (WB) and IMF Annual Meetings scheduled for October 2021 in Marrakech,” said IMF director of communications Gerry Rice during a press briefing on Thursday in Washington.
This is Kristina Georgieva’s first visit to Morocco, an opportunity, he said, to “prepare the way” for this important annual meeting of the two international financial institutions. The Managing Director of the IMF will meet with senior Moroccan officials and will also participate in a roundtable on governance in the presence of members of civil society and young people, added Rice.
Morocco was officially designated in April 2018 to host the 2021 edition of the WB and IMF Annual Meetings, following a long process of evaluating the candidacies submitted by 13 countries. This choice attests to the confidence of the two institutions in the Kingdom’s ability to successfully organize major world-class events.
