UN: Hilale re-elected Vice President of ECOSOC

The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) re-elected, by acclamation, Ambassador Omar Hilale, Permanent Representative of Morocco, as Vice-President of the Council and President of its humanitarian segment for the 2020 cycle.

This renewal for another year at the head of the humanitarian segment of ECOSOC also represents a recognition and recognition of the unanimously acclaimed achievements that Morocco has achieved during the 2019 cycle. Hilale is committed to continuing the many reflections and structural reforms engaged in particular to strengthen ECOSOC and its humanitarian sector, strengthen its impact on the ground, streamline its work, and make it more visible, to meet the needs of millions of people in crisis around the world.

The Moroccan presidency of this segment also coincided with the commemoration in 2019 of the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, which constitute the bedrock of international humanitarian law.
