UN: Morocco’s Najat Rochdi Appointed Senior Humanitarian Advisor for Syria

Morocco’s Najat Rochdi has been appointed senior humanitarian advisor to the United Nations special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, announced the organization on Tuesday.

Rochdi, who was previously deputy special representative of the UN Secretary-General and humanitarian coordinator in the Central African Republic (CAR), will also chair the International Syria Support Group’s Humanitarian Task Force on behalf of Pedersen, said UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, at his daily press briefing in New York.

As part of her new mission, Najat Rochdi will “help facilitate crucial humanitarian access and protection of civilians in Syria through supporting humanitarian negotiations in coordination with the UN country team and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs,” the spokesperson pointed out.
