The Ambassador Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations in New York, Omar Hilale, opened the second regular session of the Executive Council of UNICEF, which he chairs. This session comes on the eve of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, an opportunity to highlight this landmark document, to assess the progress made in the protection of children’s rights and promoting the rights of children around the world, and thinking about ways and means for a better future for future generations.

The opening session of the Council was marked by the participation of about fifteen young delegates and children representing in particular Morocco, Canada, Australia, the United States, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, and Bangladesh.

These young people spoke at the general debate to express their concerns and expectations about the challenges of today’s world, including on climate change issues, humanitarian crises related to natural disasters or conflicts, forced child labor, exploitation, abuse and sexual violence, child marriage, urban violence, fires, and other barriers to their education.
