The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has authorized the import of Moroccan raspberries into the United States after the pest risk analysis.
“On the basis of the results of a pest risk analysis that we have made available to the public for review and comment, we have determined that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of pest risk introduction or spread of plant pests or noxious weeds through the importation of raspberries from Morocco,” says the USDA.
The import of Moroccan raspberries is allowed after July 24th. According to the USDA, Morocco plans to export between 200 and 500 tons of raspberries each year. A relatively small amount, “0.4 to 0.9% of American raspberry imports”.
