US threatens “VETO” against funding for “MINURSO”

The United States threatened to veto a draft resolution that would pave the way for joint funding for MINURSO’s work. US diplomacy justified its position that it needed the approval of the new Congress, which has not yet begun to work, while African diplomats viewed the US position as politically intransigent.

In Africa, nations have canceled a call for a vote on a draft resolution that opens the door to joint UN funding for peace operations in Africa for the third time in less than two weeks.

According to an African diplomatic source, the launch of joint funding by the United Nations for peace operations in Africa has been a subject of tension between the United States and African countries since the beginning of this month, suggesting that the vote on the project could take place this month or in January.
