WIPO: Morocco wins presidency of General Assembly

The Kingdom of Morocco was unanimously elected, in Geneva, as President of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), for the biennium 2019-2021.

With this mandate, which will come into force from October 10, Morocco will be the first Arab country and the second African country, after Nigeria, to chair the WIPO General Assembly, since its creation in 1967.

Morocco was elected in the person of Ambassador Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Omar Zniber, in the framework of the 59th Session of the Assemblies of WIPO.

This election, underlines a statement from the Moroccan diplomatic mission in Geneva, is “undoubtedly a new pledge of confidence and recognition of Moroccan diplomacy”.
